Mindfulness is a tool that can be used to become more aware of your feelings and thoughts in the present moment, which can lead to the freedom to choose how you act and react to situations in life. Jon Kabat-Zinn (mindfulness teacher and founder of the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Clinic at The University of Massachusetts Medical Center) describes mindfulness as:
“Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way; on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally.”
Meditation is the daily practice that leads to mindfulness. There are all kinds of meditation practices from many different spiritual traditions.
